Neil Young Posts A Touching Tribute To His Ex-Wife Pegi Who Has Lost Her Battle With Cancer

January 9, 2019

This year started with sad news: Pegi Young – a singer, philanthropist, and Neil Young’s ex-wife – lost her fight with cancer on January 1. She was 66.

Pegi was a late bloomer in the world of music, but she’s best known for co-founding the Bridge School – an education program for children with serious physical and speech impairments. Her and Neil’s son Ben (b. 1978) was born with cerebral palsy, and Pegi wanted to make a difference in the lives of other children with disabilities.

She and Neil first met in 1974 and tied the knot in 1978. They were married for 36 years and divorced in 2014. Neil has since remarried, but he showed how much his late wife means to him in a touching tribute on his website.

Neil’s heart-melting tribute to Pegi

In 1992, Neil released Harvest Moon, an album dedicated to his and Pegi’s love story. On his website, he posted lyrics from Such a Woman, a song from the album.

The singer concluded his tribute with words of love and appreciation:

Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children. You live inside of them and the many you have touched.

Although they were no longer together when Pegi died, she clearly meant (and still means) a lot to Neil as a mom of two of his children, Ben and Amber.

Other tributes

Pegi’s friends and colleagues were saddened by the news and posted touching tributes on social media. Elton John, Nils Lofgren, and Randy Bachman, who knew Pegi in person, took to Twitter to express their sadness and appreciation for her:

Rest in peace, Pegi! You really touched the lives of many.
