He was in a rehab two times before but it didn’t seem to cure his addiction. The troubled actor finally agreed to check in for the third time after Garner begged him to get help.

In a new revealing message, posted this week, Affleck confirmed he completed 40 days in a rehab for his alcohol addiction. The actor wrote:

Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is full-time commitment.

He shared the words of gratitude for the immense support he received from his family, friends, and fans, saying that it helped him to be open about his struggles.

The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others.

The actor added that comforting words of those, who have been through the same thing, helped him to realize that he is “not alone.”

So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addiction. To those people, I want to say thank you. Your strength is inspiring and is supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible.

Affleck hopes that one day, his journey will set an example for those who are fighting the same battles.
