Corey Feldman was one of the most promising child actors of the 80s.

Having starred in such iconic movies as The Goonies (1985), The Lost Boys (1987), and Stand By Me (1986), Corey was looking at a bright Hollywood future.

However, behind such smashing success hid many heartaches caused by Feldman's mother, Sheila.

Corey's hellish childhood with a stage mom

In 2013, Feldman released memoir titled Coreyography in which he detailed his childhood memories and how it was like growing up with, according to him, "dangerous" mother.

Corey revealed that his mother pushed him into acting at the age of 3 and was set on profiting from his career. Sheila was demanding and often criticized her son. As Corey wrote:

It’s clear that she enjoys making fun of me. It’s obvious that she finds pleasure in making me feel inadequate.

Sheila also didn't shy away from fat-shaming her child. Feldman said she even used to make him take diet pills:

I do have round, chubby, cherubic cheeks, but I always thought that I would grow into them. Now she tells me that if I’m not careful, I’ll grow up to be a fat, disgusting pig … She lifts my shirt and pinches a fold of skin between her fingers.

Corey believes that his mother's behavior stemmed from deep psychological issues and he just didn't realize it at the time. Now, Feldman realizes it was obvious that his mom wasn't okay:

She would cry and fidget and whine and sometimes scream and fume and kick…Those were the worst days, when her moods became like black holes, sucking the life from every corner of the house into that cold, dark, room.

Breaking free

At the age of 14, Corey requested emancipation from his parents after finding out that they wasted his money and being unable to live with his mother anymore.

Feldman was left alone at 15, but it wasn't perfect. His father actually requested that Corey paid him off for spending time with him on movie set instead of focusing on his own work. The settlement left the famous teenager in debt.

Such rough young years slowly destroyed Corey and even led him to drug addiction. However, Feldman wrote in his biography that as of 2013 he was 20 years sober. He's currently focusing on his music career.
