"I Have About At Least Five More Years": Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Still Wants To Work

In 2016, Associate Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sat down for an interview with Joan Biskupic, CNN Legal Analyst and Supreme Court Biographer, and made clear her thoughts about President Donald Trump.

He is a faker. He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment.

Ginsburg also noted that Trump had an ego and wondered why the press had been easy on him even after he refused to submit his tax returns when all other presidential candidates did so.

Then presidential candidate Trump sent out a scathing response to Ginsburg, suggesting her remarks were partisan and even calling for her resignation from the Supreme Court.

Speaking with CNN after a production of "The Originalist" in New York last month, she suggested that her time at the Supreme Court was far from over.

I'm now 85. My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so think I have about at least five more years.

When asked about term limits at the Supreme Court and the possibility of her retiring, Ginsburg made it clear that neither option was immediately feasible. She even had a witty slant.

You can't set term limits, because to do that you'd have to amend the Constitution. Article 3 says ... we hold our offices during good behavior. And most judges are very well behaved.

Opinions about Ginsburg’s statement on her stay at the Supreme Court are divided.

Ginsburg has led a long and successful career in the US legal system, and for many of her colleagues, she remains a formidable force and continues to enjoy a lot of support, irrespective of her opinions of the current president.
