They also made Florence Henderson, who portrayed the family matriarch, famous, too. Barry and Florence had a very interesting relationship throughout the time they worked together.

As it turned out, Williams was head over heels in love with his TV mom.

Unexpected affection

In his 1992 auto-biography called Growing Up Brady: I Was A Teenage Greg, Barry Williams revealed he was utterly and completely in love with his TV mom, Florence Henderson.

The story was written under the chapter named ‘Dating your mom’ where Barry talks about his not-so-innocent feelings towards the much-older actress.

Williams’ admiration of Henderson was not just a mere teenage crush. The actress was a role model, a close confidant, and an object of dreams for young Billy.

Did they date though?

According to the book, Williams and Henderson did have one date. But it’s quite a stretch to label as such an intimate one-on-one meeting the pair had.

Barry writes:

When those little things called hormones start kicking in, you get excited by even inanimate objects. It wasn’t that I sought to bed her. I just wanted to spend time with her.

The two had a romantic dinner which took place during the show’s second season when Barry was 16 and Florence was 36. However, even though it was a date for Barry, it surely wasn’t anything remotely romantic for his TV mom.

Later, Williams shared that his relationship with Henderson grew over the years and blossomed into a true friendship. They remained in touch until the actress passed away in 2016.
