This past Saturday, members of the royal family all gathered at the Buckingham Palace balcony for the 2018 edition of the Trooping The Colour ceremony. And they certainly gave us a lot to talk about.
What Meghan wore
This is the Duchess of Sussex's debut appearance at the event, so fans were eager to see what she would wear. And as expected, her choice of outfit certainly caught our attention.
Meghan looked stunning in a pink off-the-shoulder dress by Carolina Herrera with a matching Philip Treacy hat. Taking one look at her, it's pretty clear that she was all about Hollywood glamour.
What Kate wore
In 2011, Kate Middleton made her own balcony debut shortly after getting married to Prince William.
The Duchess of Cambridge went for a cream ensemble that also featured a double-breasted coat by Alexander McQueen. She 'capped' it all off with a black Lock & Co hat.
Technically, Meghan's outfit did break royal protocol. According to the UK Sun, the royal women are not supposed to wear off-shoulder styles or any revealing outfit for official events such as this.
Kate sure followed the rules to a 't' as her own debut outfit was exactly what one might expect of a royal wife.
A difference in personality
To compare the two, it's safe to say Meghan is the one that is least worried about breaking the rules. Perhaps, Kate has to be a lot more careful with her choices considering the fact that her husband, Prince William, will very likely be king someday.
But since Prince Harry is eighth in line to the throne, it's unlikely that he will hold that position. So, it makes sense that he and his wife get some leeway to be as flexible with the royal rules as they want.
Also, Meghan has always been known for her style and fashion long before she married Harry. As an actress, she spent years in the limelight and knows how to dress like a Hollywood diva. So, we can see she's not about to ditch that side of her completely.
Whichever the case, the difference between these women is what we love about the both of them. Kate's elegance is admirable and Meghan's penchant for bending the rules makes her relatable and super lovable.
