“The Mask of Zorro” was released in 1998 and starred Antonio Banderas playing the titular character alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones. In this adventure, Zeta-Jones played Elena Montero, daughter of the original Zorro (Don Diego de la Vega), played by Anthony Hopkins.
In spite of the fact that Zeta-Jones was not of Latino origins, she pulled off the part to the awe of her many fans. In particular, her dance performance with Banderas was the definition of film gold and remains one of the most appealing parts of the movie.
20 years after the movie’s release date, Zeta-Jones shares a post commemorating the day. She shared one of her all-time favorite scenes with fans. Elena had just caught Zorro, as he was about to make off with property belonging to her father.
The brave heroine challenges Zorro to a sword fight, and they battle it out. While Zorro is more skilled than Elena, she manages to put up a fair fight and impresses Zorro.
20 years since #TheMaskofZorro! Had such an amazing time filming this. Who remembers this scene with the talented @antoniobanderasoficial?
Fans of the Zorro franchise still give the original cast kudos for their performance 20 years after. The duo of Banderas and Zeta-Jones appeared in the sequel, and despite the buzz created, it was not as successful as the first film.
With a new generation of moviegoers, films, such as “The Mask of Zorro”, are a reminder of a talent of the actors. Ole!
