In 2015, the legendary singer Mariah Carey and Australian media mogul James Packer made their first red carpet debut. The pair looked smiling and happy. James then proposed to his beloved with a stunning 35-carat diamond ring.
The couple got married in 2016, but their happiness was short-lived, as they called their relationship a ‘mistake’.
Now, Mariah has finally said goodbye to her past and ‘quietly’ sold the $13.2 million engagement ring for a fraction of the price. It is believed that the new owner is the LA jeweler who paid $2.1million for it.
The singer's publicist commented:
Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity. That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.
The billionaire businessman opened up about their breakup in an interview:
I was at a low point in my personal life. She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.
The pair’s relationship reportedly got worse when they got into a fight while vacationing in Greece. In March of this year, James resigned as director of Crown Resorts, struggling with mental health issues.
Meanwhile, Mariah moved on and started dating her younger backing dancer, 35-year-old Bryan Tanaka.
