Hung Jackman and his wife, Deborra-lee Furness, are not your typical Hollywood couple. The two met on the set of Correlli, an Australian TV show. The age difference of twelve years didn’t stop them; Jackman and Furness fell in love and started dating. They tied the knot in 1996, and in spring this year, the happy couple celebrated their 22nd anniversary. What helps them stay strong?

For Jackman, finding the right person was sheer luck. One of the secrets of his and Furness’ strong union is being able to just be themselves with each other and not having to walk on eggshells. The actor told TODAY:

When you’re dating, you literally put on the best version of yourself. When you get on the dance floor, you’re like, all right, I am pulling out my best moves here, I am doing my best lines, I have got my best clothes on. How do you transition from that person to actually truly being yourself? The tracksuit pant version of yourself.

Until you feel that comfortable with your partner, you don't really know if you’re right together. So literally from day one, Deb and I had that feeling. It was like a relief. I could just be myself. I am not saying we don't ever dress up or impress each other, but being comfortable is a key.

Jackman also said they had a set of rules right from the start, like never spending more than two weeks apart. It seems to be working so far!

Here’s another reason why their marriage is rock-solid: they met before Jackman had his big break as Wolverine in the X-men franchise. When they met, they were equals, career-wise. And his wife never put him on some kind of pedestal.

After more than two decades together, Jackman and Furness are still very much in love with each other. In his latest interview on TODAY, Jackman said he always seeks his wife’s advice and called her “the sexiest, funniest, most beautiful woman in the world.”

Jackman and Furness’ difficult journey to parenthood

During their time together, the couple have had to endure their fair share of pain and heartbreak. They started trying for a baby soon after they got married, but, after a number of unsuccessful IVF treatments and two miscarriages, they had to accept the fact that they couldn’t have biological children.

They had thought about adoption even before they found out that they couldn't have a baby, Jackman told People. The plan was to have one or two biological children and then adopt. As the former wasn’t an option, they went straight for the latter.

The couple adopted a boy and a girl. Their daughter, Ava, is 13 now, and their son, Oscar, is 18.

The Jackmans are a perfect family of four. And you thought perfect Hollywood husbands don’t exist? Just look at this one!
