A lot of things have changed since Meghan Markle married her British Prince. Moreover, she has changed herself. Some people even think that the Duchess has dropped something she used to fiercely fight for – feminism.
A few experts believe that Markle is slowly turning into a “traditional royal woman,” putting her feminist position aside.
However, her transition wasn’t smooth sailing as once the Duchess broke a major protocol rule by just being herself.
Causing political storm
Last summer, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ventured to Ireland for an official visit, the then-royal newbie sparked a political storm by breaking one big protocol rule.
A royal correspondent Daniel Devane reveals in the 2018 documentary titled Meghan and Harry: The First 100 Days that Meghan reportedly discussed politics with a senator of the Fine Gael political party, Catherine Noone, which is something royals can’t do.
The Duchess talked about Ireland’s referendum on abortion, which Noone later mentioned in her tweets. She wrote:
The Duchess and I had a chat about the recent referendum result — she watched with interest & was pleased to see the result.
Devane believes that things like that “shouldn’t be happening”. He commented:
Of course that cannot happen in the Royal Family. Royal members should not be getting involved in politics.
However, another royal expert Nathan Caton thinks that the Duchess should have been on a probation period because she hadn’t been a part of the royal family for that long, which is why she might have made that mistake.
Even though the reigning monarch has some power in his or her hands, the royals have remained politically neutral for years. They limited their actions to the humanitarian side of things, steering clear form taking a strong politic position concerning any issue. It’s something Meghan Markle had to learn when she joined the royal family.
