Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay gets candid about her path to adoption with husband Peter Hermann. What made Mariska and Peter take this life-changing step?

The television stars Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann are happily married for 15 years. The couple raises 3 wonderful kids: 1 biological and 2 adopted.

Mariska and Peter welcomed their first son August in 2006. Then, the spouses adopted a girl Amaya and a boy Andrew in 2011.

In a brand new interview with People, the Law & Order actress revealed what pushed her to the adoption. Mariska explained that as she lost her mom at a very young age and grew with a stepmother, she sees nothing wrong in the adoption.

Hargitay said:

I know that families can be built in all sorts of different ways, that there isn’t just one way to create a family and that it isn’t just about biology.

Her husband Peter Hermann totally supported Mariska in her decision.

By the way, Hermann also shared his secret to a happy and strong marriage. The actor said:

We know where we’re headed. And we know we’ll get there together.

Peter added that what he loves Mariska for is that she can always make him smile.
