It took a while for Katie Couric to get back into the dating game after her first husband’s passing.

Katie tied the knot with Jay Monahan in 1989. They welcomed their first daughter, Ellie, in 1991. Their second daughter, Carrie, arrived in 1996.

In 1998, just two years after his second child was born, Jay died from colon cancer. Katie became a cancer awareness activist after her husband’s passing and raised her two daughters as a single mom, but she wasn’t in a rush to remarry.

Finding a new love

The famed journalist took her time to come to terms with her husband’s passing and eventually started dating again. In 2012, newly single Katie asked her friend Molly if she knew someone - say, a doctor - who she could introduce to her, she recalled in an exclusive interview with People.

Molly didn’t know a doctor, but she knew a banker named John Molner. At first, John wasn’t too eager to call Katie, but he finally did call and asked her out.

It was love at first sight, Katie recalled:

He finally asked me out, we met at a restaurant and what can I say? He had me at hello.

Both had thought their first meeting would be awkward, but they hit it off immediately. After two years of dating, the couple tied the knot on June 21, 2014.

The two have a joint project

John works in finance and Katie is a journalist, but the two have a joint project despite working in different areas.

The couple star in the online cooking series Full Plate with Katie & John.

Katie and John look happy together, and they are really lucky to have met each other.
