"We Were Married For A Long Time": Courteney Cox Once Admitted She "Regrets" Her Divorce From Ex David Arquette

August 29, 2019

David Arquette and Courteney Cox announced their separation in 2010 and but stated they would remain committed parents and "best friends." A joint statement noted:

The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage. We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply.

However, two years later, in 2012, David Arquette filed legal papers for divorce from Courteney Cox. The actor asked for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Coco and did not mention anything about spousal or child support. The two officially divorced in 2013.

A year after the divorce, the Scream actress candidly revealed she "regrets" divorcing her former husband.

In divorce you always have regret. We were married for a long time, so it's not like we didn't try. Obviously, kids always want their parents to be together. But as divorces go, this is the best one we could provide.

Courteney Cox added that being apart from each other was the best decision as the two couldn't continue the marriage.

You can love somebody so much, but it's not the life you should be living together. I think David and I are supposed to be the way we are now.

According to the Orion star, divorce wasn't easy for him, too. Back in 2018, David said:

In the final [movie], we got separated. It really came full circle, that whole Scream franchise. It was harsh.

Arquette also conceded they both had "midlife crisis" at the time of their separation and nothing was going well between them whatsoever.

Aside from the difficult divorce, the Friends star is currently in a relationship with the Snow Patrol musician, Johnny McDaid, whereas the former wrestler is happily married to the former Entertainment Tonight correspondent, Christina McLarty.
