Things didn’t go so smooth at first but the actress claims she knew Hermann was the one when she saw him attending the same church.

But what it was like to get married for the first time after hitting 40?

She followed her own path

Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann tied the knot in Santa Barbara in 2004, two years after they had their first date. Mariska turned 40 at that time.

It’s Hargitay's first marriage and she is certain it’s her last one. Some people would be surprised that the TV star waited for so long before saying “I do.” But Mariska has no regrets.

She explained:

Everyone was getting married in their 20s or 30s, but in my mind, I knew I had to figure out what I was doing in my life. I didn’t want anyone to shape me, and I knew that I had my own path to walk. Not to say I wasn’t sad or impatient.

Mariska assures that life doesn’t end when you cross a certain age mark. She feels blessed to ‘get things later in life.’ The actress added:

To become successful later in life, to get married later and have a baby … I’m a better wife, better mother, better actor.

And to all ladies who feel down about their age, Hargitay has one thing to say: ‘Life is what you make it.’
