When Mariska Hargitay met her husband, fellow actor Peter Hermann, the two had an instant connection. It’s been over 15 years since they tied the knot but their bond is just as strong.

It strengthened even more after welcoming three children. The couple has one biological child, son August, and two adopted kids, daughter Amaya Josephine and son Andrew Nicolas.

Having a successful acting career and being a mom-of-three is not an easy task and Mariska is not afraid to speak out about her troubles.

When talking with Parade, Mariska Hargitay revealed that being a working mom can be tough. However, no matter how challenging her day might be at work, she quickly switches to “mom mode” as soon as she gets home.

The actress says she’s extremely grateful for her children because they give her the ‘balance’ she needs in life. The Hargitay family’s favorite thing to do is to watch movies together and ‘just hang out.’

Yet, having so many things on her plate, Mariska says she sometimes feels like ‘an octopus.’ The actress explained:

Sometimes I feel like an octopus being pulled in so many directions. I have so many different joys. I’m acting, I’m producing, I’m directing episodes and I’m having meetings for my foundation. Then I’m a wife and a mom, and you have to keep watering that garden. Relationships don’t just stay great.

But there is no doubt that Hargitay’s kids are the biggest joy in her life. She and Peter try to teach them good values like kindness and compassion and that deserves respect.
