Antonio Banderas Reflects On His Heart Attack As "One Of The Best Things" In His Life: "I Am Thankful For It"

August 21, 2019

Back in 2017, the Spanish actor Antonio Banderas revealed he had had a heart attack. According to the star, nothing was serious or "dramatic" in that matter.

Banderas notified he had three stents put in his arteries but the incident itself hadn't caused any damage to his health.

The Mask of Zorro star rarely bares his heart about personal matters. He probably follows the dogma of many celebrities who fly under the radar when it relates to their family or health.

However, on August 17, 2019, the Spanish actor exclusively opened up about his heart attack in a rare interview.

Talking to The Irish Times, the 59-year-old reflected on his health scare, referring to it as "one of the best things" in his life.

The heart attack was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Because it opened my eyes to many things that I hadn’t seen. I didn’t understand what was really important.

Banderas added that the incident made him reevaluate his life and define what is most important for him.

You surround yourself, not just with material things, but other things that aren’t important. What’s important? My daughter and my family, my friends, my work is an actor. It’s funny because once you understand, something in your aura changes so that even if you don’t do anything about it, there are certain doors that open. This happened to me.

Additionally, the Pain and Glory star added that heart attack led him to give up on smoking and have a healthy lifestyle.

That’s why I am thankful for it,

— concluded the actor.

We have one life-changing situation that completely turns our lives to 360. The most vital is to be thankful both for good and bad moments as each of them has something to teach us.
