Steve Irwin's Best Friend Speaks On Feud With The Family, Says He Hasn't Been At The Zoo In Years: "It Was The End Of An Era"

October 2, 2019

Wedding plans are underway for Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin. This should have been a big family event but unfortunately, Bindi's grandfather, Steve's father, will not make it to the big day.

Courier Mail reported that Bindi's grandpa Bob didn't get invited to the wedding and Steve's older sister Joy Muscillo told the UK DailyMail that she doesn't speak to Steve's widow Terri and the kids.

Bestie issues

Apart from the family problem, it looks like John Stainton, once a very good friend of Steve, is no longer close to the family.

The TV producer who helped bring Steve to the limelight stopped working on projects that had to do with the Irwins in 2009.

John also revealed that he hasn't been to the Australia Zoo in ten years. He told the UK DailyMail:

It (was) just the end of an era.

John admitted that when Steve died, he tried to help Bindi build a TV career with a show titled Bindi the Jungle Girl. But after a while, he felt it was time to focus on other things.

As the family were going to do their own thing, I was doing my thing. We were just on different paths.

He confirmed that there was no animosity between him and the family when he left them and rumors to the contrary were false.

John also commented on Bindi's wedding saying he was happy for her. And about Terri Irwin, he said:

Terri's a great mum, she's been an incredibly good mum to them. I wish them continued success and Bindi a very happy new life.

Family drama

While John's distance from the Irwin family may simply by as a result of everyone focusing on their own thing, grandpa Bob's situation is quite unfortunate.

It has been reported that Bob has been estranged from his daughter-in-law Terri and the grandkids since Steve's tragic death in 2006.

He did wish Bindi and Chandler the best telling Courier Mail:

Much the same as any other parent or grandparent, I would wish (Bindi and Chandler) all the best — which I do — and hope things go really, really well.

It may seem sad that the Irwin crew is no longer as close as they used to be. But it's safe to assume that all parties involved have their reasons for distancing themselves. As long as everyone is doing well, there shouldn't be any reason for fans to worry.
