26-year-old Haley Smith first popped up on our screens as one of the hopefuls during the 11th season of American Idol in 2012.

She amazed judges with her rendition of Rufus and Chaka Khan's Tell Me Something Good and got through the audition but didn't make it past the Hollywood round. Steven Tyler was especially impressed by her voice saying she was "out of my era" and that he was "honored" to hear her sing.

It has been reported that the singer passed away on Saturday morning in Maine. According to police reports acquired by TMZ, Haley was unable to make a sharp turn along a road while riding her motorcycle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In an interview with the publication, Haley's dad Mike Smith said that he believed a deer might have caused the accident because his daughter was a good rider and wouldn't have simply lost control of her vehicle.
