Michael James Ryan, known professionally as Busbee, has died on Sunday night Sept. 29, according to social media posts from several of his collaborators. Although he worked with pop stars like Christina Aguilera, Shakira, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Pink, co-writing her 2013 hit “Try,” Busbee found his greatest success in Nashville.

His life was way too short!

This talented man had written hits for many of the most influential artists of the last five years, most notably Maren Morris and Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Carly Pearce, Lady Antebellum and many more. He was only 43 years old.

According to a friend, Busbee was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, over the summer and was undergoing treatment.

Busbee lived behind the scenes, even by usual songwriter standards. A Rolling Stone article from 2016 is one of very few extensive pieces on his life and music available. He came from Los Angeles and a jazz background before he started writing songs for pop and country audiences more than a decade ago.

People's reaction

Following news of Busbee’s death, Morris tweeted a photo of herself with her creative partner.

Hannah Greyliss wrote:

"this literally breaks me. You were one of the first people I thought of 💔"

Karen Fairchild added:

"Love you Busbee."

While other users noted:

"So heartbreaking to hear."

Busbee left behind his three children, including a just-born baby girl. His life was too short but we believe his legacy will always live on!

Our thoughts and prayers go to the family during this hard time if their lives.
