"He's A Great Kid": Al Roker Proudly Reflects On His Inspiring Bond With His A Special Needs Son

January 9, 2020

Al Roker knows the feeling of a 'devastated' parent, who later turns into a warrior and a hero. The TV personality's son, Nick, has development delays since the very beginning. In a personal essay in Guidepost magazine, he wrote about a challenging journey and struggles his child has experienced throughout the lifespan.

Al Roker writes that Nick is "somewhere on the autism spectrum and maybe obsessive-compulsive." The Today anchorman and his wife, Deborah, didn't know what the future would give to their son, but he is now trying his best to live life to the fullest.

Al Roker's son and their special bond

Being a parent of a kid with special needs is another level of appreciation and admiration. In January 2020, Al Roker had a conversation with his co-host, Hoda Kotb, during which he revealed his inspiring bond with Nick.

The 65-year-old is very supportive of his son; even it means to make mani-pedis together.

The thing I love about him that I admire about him is that he just kind of attacks it head-on. He's very goal-oriented, and he's a great kid.

Al Roker made a special wish for New Year 2020 — it is to be more patient with his son, who has special needs.

As a lot of parents (know) who have kids with special needs, they can try your patience. As a lot of parents (know) who have kids with special needs, they can try your patience. I look at him and all that he does, and I want to be a better person for him.

Here are other things about Al Roker's son

  1. Nick has a black belt in taekwondo.
  2. His son won two gold medals in the New York swim event in 2019.
  3. The 16-year-old inspires his father to work harder and believe that everything is possible

Al Roker's teen son is definitely inspiring. They just break all biases circulating in communities. 16-year-old Nick indeed has special needs, but he doesn't allow them to stop him from pursuing his interests and achieving different goals. He's notably a role model for everybody with the same issues!
