The truth behind Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines’ marriage

In a new PEOPLE’s Kindness Issue, Chip Gaines opened up about his long-standing union with his wife. The Fixer Upper star revealed that the reason why their marriage is so strong is their genuine love for each other.

But how do they get through tough times? The father-of-five shared that he and Joanna always put kindness first. He said:

Jo and I are the best of friends, and yet obviously we don’t agree all the time. I’ve conceded to her dozens of times, if not hundreds throughout our relationship, and she has done the same with me.

The 44-year-old added:

In the end, Jo and I sincerely care more about one another than we do about one of us being right during a debate.

Previously, Chip noted that ‘mutual respect’ is what makes their relationship so successful. There is no doubt that the couple has a special bond and it certainly gets stronger with years.
