'The Man From U.N.C.L.E' Star David McCallum Was Devastated After Co-Star Robert Vaughn Passed Away As They Were Real-Life Friends

The Man From U.N.C.L.E was a very popular TV series from the 1960s that captured the hearts of many people.

The show starred talented actors Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, but of whom played superspies and entertained viewers in an incredible way.

Robert's role as Napoleon Solo and David's as Illya Kuryakin drew in a lot of fans until the show eventually faded out in its fourth season.

These two men seemed to have a strong connection and friendship in the series. But as it turned out, it wasn't all acting. Robert and David were actually friends in real life.

A sad loss

Robert Vaughn passed away in 2016 at the age of 83. And one of the people to pay tributes to the great star was David McCallum.

According to Mirror, David expressed his heartbreak over Robert's death in a moving message to the Vaughn family.

I am utterly devastated. Robert and I worked together for many years and losing him is like losing a part of me. My deepest sympathies go out to Linda and the Vaughn family.

In November 2016, Robert's manager Matthew Sullivan confirmed that the actor had passed away following a short battle with acute leukemia.

The manager stated that he was surrounded by his family and was survived by wife Linda, and his children, Cassidy and Caitlin.

David McCallum and Robert's Vaughn's later life

The Man From U.N.C.L.E seemed to be the highlight of both David and Robert's careers. But this didn't mean they faded out of the limelight after it ended.

David has had a main role on the TV show NCIS since 2003 as Dr. Donald Horatio "Ducky" Mallard and Vaughn made appearances on such TV shows as Hoodlum & Son and Gang Warz.

These talented men had people glued to the screens in the 60s with their superspy antics and fun, tough-guy personalities. They took several steps in their career since then but it's also nice to know that they had a strong, lasting friendship as well.
