Kimberly Schlapman Found Love With A Man Who Helped Her Heal From Her Husband's Death

Kimberly Schlapman was enjoying a loving marriage with husband Steven Roads when he passed away suddenly. His unexpected death undoubtedly hit the singer really hard but things are currently looking up for her.

Becoming a widow

Kimberly Schlapman, one of the members of the Little Big Town band, faced a really tough time in 2005 when her husband died. Steven was the band's lawyer at the time and according to Earnthenecklace, he died from a heart attack.

During a 2015 interview with CBS, the Little Big Town band members opened up about how Steven's death was a shaky time for them. Fellow band member Karen Fairchild said she worried that his death meant the end of the band.

She didn't think Kimberly would never sing again:

There was so much sorrow in her eyes. So I didn't think she would really sing. I kind of thought the band was over.

Kimberly Schlapman's second husband

The beautiful singer did find a reason to smile again when she met her now-husband Stephen Schlapman. The couple tied the knot in 2006. According to People, Kimberly and Stephen were longtime friends and she found comfort in him when she needed it the most.

Kimberly's rep, Tracy McGlocklin, who confirmed the wedding to the outlet, said that the couple had a "small and intimate" ceremony and that everyone at the wedding, including the bride and groom, was barefoot.

The singer once opened up to CountryLiving about her love and appreciation for her husband. She adored him for how he was able to give her the opportunity to shine.

His life kind of revolves around my schedule and everything that’s going on with me, and unfortunately he takes a back seat.

He was also very helpful with taking care of their daughters Daisy and Dolly which gave Kimberly all the time she needed to focus on her music.

Kimberly Schlapman on falling in love with Stephen

The talented mom once revealed to PopCulture that she never expected to fall in love with Stephen so soon after her husband died. The last thing she was looking for was to start a relationship, but life had other plans.

She explained that she and Stephen were good friends at the time and had known each other for six years. He constantly reached out to her during her grief.

He started calling me more than everybody else did [laughs]. We had both been through similar losses; he hadn’t lost a mate but he had lost a close friend, so we kind of bonded over that. I grieved, kind of, at him a lot. He took my grief.

She added that Stephen was a great listener and would let her talk as much as she wanted. She described her partner as "the most beautiful gift" ever.

  • It's a four-member band: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, Phillip Sweet united their skills.
  • Humble beginnings: Jimi once revealed to NPR that the band's very first gig took place at the Grand Ole Opry. At the time, they only had one guitar and relied mostly on their combined voices to create magic.
  • They do everything together: Karen told People that the four of them did everything together. She revealed that they had a rule where one person couldn't convince the others of something they didn't want to do.
