Emma Thompson & Kenneth Branagh met on the set of BBC series Fortunes of War in 1987. They played the role of husband and wife, turning that into reality only two years later.

Unfortunately, the pair fell victim to the vagaries of Hollywood. Her fame outshone his and the trouble began.

In 1994, Kenneth Branagh was revealed to have an affair with Helena Bonham Carter. They were filming Mary Shelley's Frankenstein when the sparks flew. It made him dump Emma Thompson and the 'Golden Couple' as called by British press reached the end.

Her savior

Her split from Kenneth was a nightmarish business. She was gasping for sanity after being engulfed by depression. Emma's love for Kenneth became the depth of her wound. She revealed on BBC Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs, that she should've sought therapy from a professional. However, the remedy approached without any conspiracy.

Fate worked in her favor when she came across her second husband, Greg Wise. Thompson kept herself busy in the production of Sense and Sensibility and that's where she found him. The actress explained how Greg pulled her out of the darkness:

Work saved me and Greg saved me. He picked up the pieces and put them together again.

Being the bigger person

Emma forgave Helena who had ended her marriage and parted her from dear hubby. All blood is under the bridge. While talking to Sunday Times, the Late Night star said:

It's pointless. I haven't got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago.
