Little Nas X's C7osure included lyrics that talked about no longer wanting to pretend and that he was ready to just be who he was. He mentioned not wanting to live with regrets as what he wanted most was to be free.

Based on the song and its message, it sounded like his decision to come out was due to his desire to stop leading a fake life or hiding who he was.

While on HBO Sports' The Shop: Uninterrupted, the young star further explained that he didn't feel exactly forced to come out of the closet but when he was younger, he was taught to be unaccepting of homosexuality which made things complicated.

Difficulty accepting his sexuality

Even though some headway has been made towards becoming more accepting of homosexuality and other personal preferences, this singer still had a rough time facing who he was and accepting his sexuality.

He discussed his experiences while speaking on CBS This Morning and revealed that he initially thought being gay was something that would disappear with time.

The rapper told Gayle King:

In my teenage years, I was just praying that it was like a phase. That it would go away.

He further added that he felt there's still a lot to be done in terms of accepting people for who they are and he hoped his story would help other young boys feel brave in similar situations.

Social media backlash

As expected, coming out came with certain drawbacks. Lil Nas X was right in that people still had issues when it came to topics like this. He told BBC in an interview that he was a recipient of social media backlash after he shared his sexual orientation.
