Dolly Parton’s longtime fans have noticed one peculiar thing about the singer. She has been in the public eye for over 50 years with her arms covered up at all times. Rumors say that the reason for such a fashion choice is Dolly Parton’s tattoos.

But why did she get them? The singer has just revealed it’s not only because they looked pretty.

The mystery behind Dolly Parton’s tattoos

In a new ABC News special Dolly Parton: Here She Comes Again!, the legendary songstress talked about the most controversial topic that has been surrounding her persona for decades.

Parton publically admitted that she indeed has tattoos. What kind, you ask? The 73-year-old has a long-standing fondness of butterflies so she got them inked on her body, even though she rarely shows them.

Dolly admitted that the reason she got her tattoos is that she wanted to cover her scars. She revealed:

I got them to cover scars or things. If I have to get a scar for any reason, I never can kind of get rid of that purple look. So I thought, ‘Well, I'm going to kind of decorate these with some flowers or little butterflies or whatever.’

Back in 2011, Dolly Parton’s tattoos were just speculation. But comedian Roseanne Barr confirmed their existence during her chat with Craig Ferguson.

She said that the singer is ‘totally tattooed.’ Barr added that Dolly showed her the famous inks and they are not black but made in beautiful pastel colors. Now we want to see them, too!
