The musical world lost a very special gem as it was reported that famous songwriter Allee Willis has passed away.

Who was this woman and why was she such a star?

Allee was one of those especially talented people who made more waves behind the scenes than in front of the cameras. But her influence can be found in some of the most iconic musical moments.

The Grammy Award-winning writer was reportedly either the main or co-writer of such songs as the sitcom Friend's theme song I'll Be There For You, The Color Purple broadway musical and Neutron Dance.

In an interview with the NYTimes, Allee revealed that, even though she made her name in the earlier era of songwriting, she hoped to work with the newer stars like Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake.
