Who was Silvio Horta?

Silvio Horta was born in Miami in 1974 and was destined to become a writer. He'd always dreamt of Hollywood and creating stories that would come alive on the screen.

Even in high school Horta would help his classmates with their homework for creative writing class as ideas kept flowing out of him and he wanted an outlet. In addition, he got $10 for every assignment, which, you might say, became his first writing job.

After Silvio graduated from NYU Film School, he wrote a screenplay for Urban Legend, a YA horror film. He was inspired by the popularity of Scream and found the perfect time to get his script picked up.

Everything happened quickly after that. The screenplay got greenlit and the movie became a beloved cult classic. Horta continued writing after that and is responsible for writing/developing the following shows:

  • The Chronicle - wrote 4 episodes, was executive producer;
  • Jake 2.0 - creator, writer, and executive producer;
  • Ugly Betty - creator, writer, and executive producer.
