Who was Anna Karina?

Anna Karina was a woman of many talents. She rose to fame in the 1960's as part of the French New Wave of cinema and a muse to one of the best directors of that time Jean-Luc Godard.

But Karina didn't only shine through acting, she also excelled at directing, writing, and singing, and even had her debut Vivre Ensemble at the Cannes Festival in 1973.

The New York Times dubs Karina as the icon of the 1960's cinema and once even called her "one of the screen's great beauties and an enduring symbol of the French New Wave."

R.I.P. Anna Karina

Anna Karina passed away from cancer at 79 on December 14, 2019 in Paris, as reported by The Guardian. The actress agent broke the news of her death:

Anna died yesterday in a Paris hospital of the effects of cancer.

French culture minister paid a tearful tribute to the late actress by writing "today, French cinema has been orphaned. It has lost one of its legends."

Karina's death is mourned by the members of French cinema as well. But clearly it's a heartbreaking day for the film industry overall as we all lost a unique talent.
