Duane Chapman Contemplated Ending His Life Hours After Wife Beth Passed Away: "I Hope I Don't Leave Longer Without Her"

Beth Chapman's death was a tough thing for the family she left behind to cope though. Her husband Duane Chapman has been the most affected by her passing and dealing with that loss has been difficult.

Beth passed away in June 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Two months after her death, Duane told Fox and Friends that he intended to keep their show going as a tribute to her. He said it was Beth's decision to stop undergoing chemotherapy so that she could continue being on Dog’s Most Wanted for as long as she could.

In the recently aired finale of Dog's Most Wanted, 66-year-old Duane could be seen being overcome with grief shortly after his wife passed away.

He told the cameras during the episode that he didn't trust himself to be alone as his deep loss was something he was still reeling from.

Realizing that he would never see his beloved wife again, Duane began to feel despondent and depressed. Feeling this low made him wish he didn't survive too much longer.

I just hope that I don’t live very much longer without her, because now she made the first step, she’s through the gate. She paved a way for me.

Duane further added:

I feel like if I did something to myself right now and passed away suicidal and I got to heaven and was like, ‘Hi honey,’ and would she go, ‘You d— a–, why would you do that?’ Or would she go, ‘Wow, you’re here.’ I’ll be like ‘Of course I’m here. You left me. I’m here.’

People are heartbroken

Seeing Duane become so raw with emotion while considering ending his own life was too much for fans to take.

They shared comments in response and expressed hope that he would get through this loss without hurting himself.

Losing a spouse really is one of the toughest things for many people to go through. Saying goodbye to that companionship can earth-shattering and the urge to reunite with them can be overwhelming. But Duane can always count on the support of family and fans to keep him grounded and hopeful.
