Bride Furious At Heavily Pregnant Bridesmaid For Displaying Baby Bump: "I Paid For Wedding Photo Shoot, Not Maternity Pics"

September 6, 2019

It's natural to want all eyes on you on your wedding day. This is especially important when it comes to wedding pictures. Any bride wants to be the center of attention and wants all focus on her. But one woman felt that her bridesmaid tried to sabotage this.

Bump attention

A lady who had just gotten married shared a post on Reddit where she talked about a wedding experience that agitated her. The poster said that one of her bridesmaid (who she referred to as Kate) was seven months pregnant by the time the wedding came around.

The bride said when they were having professional photos taken, she noticed Kate was holding her belly on purpose so her bump was very obvious through the fabric of her dress. The bride then asked her to stop doing that and "pose like everyone else." She wrote:

I had to remind her a few more times before we'd finished taking the wedding party photos.

When she returned from her honeymoon a while later, she was surprised to learn that Kate was upset with her. Another one of her bridesmaids informed her that Kate felt the bride was "trying to make her look fat, not pregnant."

This angered the bride who wrote:

Now I'm annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photoshoot, not maternity pics.

She wanted to know if she was justified in her actions.

Mixed reactions

There were some people who thought the bridesmaid was at fault. @redditKMC opined that these were the bride's wedding photos and Kate had no reason to show off her bump and take attention away from her:

When you look back at the photos, you want to remember the happy times between you guys, not be distracted by her "on display" baby bump.

Another commenter @[deleted] felt that the bridesmaid purposely planned to take be the center of focus:

It sounds like she was self-conscious about how she looked in outfits that hid that she was pregnant, planned to make sure that it was clear she was pregnant and didn't think about how they are your photos .

Others sympathized with the pregnant bridesmaid. @MomOfADragon felt that Kate could just have been self-conscious:

As someone who was hella pregnant as a bridesmaid: this. I held my belly in many pics because I was self conscious. I in no way was trying to steal attention, and it's likely your friend wasn't either.

@prettywannapancake agreed that Kate was probably uncomfortable:

It's also awkward enough figuring out what to do with your hands during pictures, but more awkward when pregnant because your body is weird and it's just kind of natural to put your hands on the bump.

Where do you stand on this argument? Was the bridesmaid insensitive or was the bride unreasonable?
