Losing a parent is a heartbreaking experience the pain of which will never fully disappear. Prince Harry knows that at first hand. His mother, Princess Diana, passed away when he was only 12 years old.

That incredibly traumatic experience tremendously affected his mental health, making him get “very close to a complete breakdown” a lot of times throughout his life. Recently the royal shared that he still misses his mom, especially after becoming a parent himself.

Candid chat

Prince Harry ventured to the Netherlands to launch the official countdown to the Invictus Games that will take place next year. Upon his arrival, the royal had a bike ride during which he met a former soldier Dennis van der Stroon with whom he had a very candid conversation.

During the chat, the royal dad opened up about the birth of his first child and how it has given him a “new goal” in life. However, it also made him miss his mother even more.

Dennis shared that the two had a very “emotional” conversation and noted that Harry was very candid about his true feelings, saying that becoming a father reminded him of a painful loss of his mom, Princess Diana.

The former soldier commented:

He said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother.

Even though that wound will never heal, it made Prince Harry very empathic towards other people. English radio and television presenter Emma Forbes once said that the ginger royal has so much Diana in him that it will make him a great father.

We definitely agree. Seeing Harry with his newborn son for the first time shows that the baby boy will be showered in love by his parents.
