A terrible blaze engulfed the iconic cathedral of Notre-Dame on Monday. One of Paris’ most recognizable sights lit up the city’s sky to the horror of tourists and locals.
Luckily, the main structure survived the fire. However, the 850-year-old Gothic spire and roof have collapsed. Some of the building’s parts will have to go through a major reconstruction which will cost a lot of money.
But have no fear. It’s been reported that someone offered a handsome sum to help rebuild the cathedral.
A generous helping hand
It’s believed that Salma Hayek‘s millionaire husband François-Henri Pinault has promised $113 million (€100 million) to rebuild Notre-Dame.
Pinault revealed the news in the French newspaper Le Figaro, where he stated:
My father (François Pinault) and myself have decided to release a sum of €100 million from our Artemis funds (the family holding company) to participate in the effort that will be necessary for the complete reconstruction of Notre-Dame.
This will be the first major donation to help reconstruct the famous sight. François-Henri is the current CEO of Kering, which owns a number of high-end brands, including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and many more.
There’s no doubt that Hayek supported her husband’s decision. She posted a photo of the burning Notre-Dame on her social media account with a caption:
As many others I’m in deep shock and sadness to witness the beauty of Notre-Dame turn into smoke. I love you Paris. Comme beaucoup d’autres, c’est avec effroi et tristesse que je regarde la beauté de Norte-Dame partir en fumée… Paris, je t’aime !
People reacted to Pinault’s gesture on social media
The public fundraising has already been announced and we are certain that there will be more generous donations to come.
