At the beginning of the month, the fans of Michael J. Fox were surprised when he suddenly cancelled his presence at Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. But now, the move is more than understandable.
As it turns out, the actor has recently undergone spinal surgery. However, the 56-year-old is doing well, and he hopes to get back “on the golf course” in a few months.
The surgery was unrelated to the disease the beloved Back to the Future star has been battling for years. In 1991, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which he kept secret till 1998.

Due to the condition, the actor has uncontrollable tremors throughout his body. But even this disease doesn’t stop Michael from pursuing acting career. Not long ago, the TV icon joined the cast of the political drama Designated Survivor, so we’re looking forward to enjoying his performance there!
Besides, the actor has been a leading activist and advocate for finding the cure for the Parkinson’s disease. By 2000, Fox embraced his diagnosis and founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research that helps advance initiatives aiming at curing the disease.
And he has also set a great example for everyone with the condition. As he says:
I was only supposed to work for another 10 years. I was supposed to be pretty much disabled by now. I’m far from it.
Against all odds, Fox is determined to continue working in Hollywood as long as he can.
