The former couple announced their split in 2015, but finalized their divorce only in October of 2018. Making their separation official took a while because Ben and Jennifer focused on figuring out their relationship and building a solid foundation for the emotional future of their children.

In addition, Affleck struggled with alcohol addiction and even had to go to rehab, which slowed down their divorce a bit. Nevertheless, Garner stood by his side all the way through his recovery.

Considering how much Jennifer is doing for him, there's no doubt that Ben still has the warmest feelings for her, and he isn't ashamed to say it.

Ben's "central person" in life

During an interview with Hoda Kotb on TODAY, Affleck went into detail about learning how to combine his recovery from alcoholism with remaining a great dad. Ultimately, Ben credited Jennifer as a "great mom" and admitted he would've been a mess without her.

At that moment Kotb noted that "you can tell you still love her," to which Affleck answered without skipping a beat:

Of course, she's wonderful. Somebody's the mother of your kids, they're going to be the most important, central person in your life, and that's good.

The moment happens around the 6:50 mark of the interview.

It's amazing to see how a Hollywood couple that went through so much is able to remain such incredible partners!

Affleck is focused on being a great dad

The famous actor also added that parenting is one of the priorities in his life right now as he understands the importance of a father figure in a child's life:

I hope I'm a pretty good dad. I certainly try very hard. I'm lucky they've got a great mom, and she helps out a great deal with making sure that we co-parent in as good a way as possible. Dads are so important to kids and it's our responsibility to be there for them, to be present, to be mindful, to be attentive, to be part of their lives ... to be as in it as moms.
