Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry became a couple, Meghan has had to face tons of negative comments online.
The online abuse and criticism directed towards Meghan got so bad that Kensington Palace issued a statement urging people to cease and desist from spewing negative comments on the royal family’s official social media accounts and elsewhere.
Some influential public figures have also stood up for Duchess Meghan, and one of them is award-winning actress Audra McDonald.
Audra’s show of support
Audra noticed that criticism of Meghan got even worse after her pregnancy announcement and decided she wouldn't put up with the negativity.
The actress shared a video of her own pregnant belly along with a message in Meghan's defense. It started with Audra’s calling out media hypocrisy:
The reason I’m posting this is because of #MeghanMarkle. I cannot believe what this woman has had to endure from social media and the press. Then today to read about how “weird” her body language is by a supposed women’s magazine that supposedly prides itself on celebrating fierce, independent, strong women who can do anything and have it all?!? Do better.
The actress went on to describe her own experience during pregnancy:
When I was 8 months pregnant I touched my belly all the time because it was MY belly and it was MY baby(usually as active as this video) inside, had crazy emotions ranging from elation to depression to rage to uncontrollable fits of laughter. I was a swollen, hot, sweaty, enormous, flatulent, in search of my feet, hot fudge sundae junkie, nervously excited, pudgy faced, waddling goddess.
She finished her post with a powerful conclusion:
The thought of having to go through all of that plus having a million cameras in my face, bullied left right and center, and still be gracious, elegant, gorgeous, and full of purpose in front of the whole world is unimaginable. Do better. Leave her alone.
Harry is secretly working to protect Meghan
It’s not like the busy Duchess wastes her time reading the negative comments – she has better things to do!
However, it’s been said that Prince Harry is paying close attention to what is being said online and even has secret accounts on social media which he uses to protect his wife.
Omid Scobie, a royal correspondent with some inside knowledge, told Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box:
Prince Harry’s told me that he follows a lot of the royal correspondents on Twitter to see what they’re up to.
He would come up during a royal tour and say ‘I saw what you wrote yesterday’ and ‘I’ve got my eyes on you,’ it was all very fun but I think Harry does pay close attention to what’s being written about him and of course now, his wife.
Anyway, people who find time to write negative comments online are probably just jealous and should get a life!
