World famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo is being accused of sexually assaulting a young woman.

"I'm usually a gentleman"

A Las Vegas woman is suing the Portuguese footballer, claiming that the sportsman raped her in a hotel in 2009. Kathryn Mayorga said in her statement that she kept on screaming 'no' to Ronaldo but he did not stop.

According to the lawsuit being filed by Mayorga, after assaulting her, Ronaldo apologized saying "he was sorry, he was usually a gentleman." The lawsuit also alleged that the footballer confirmed to his team of fixers that Mayorga indeed said 'no' and 'stop several times'.

Mayorga also said she was forced to sign a settlement and nondisclosure agreement not long after the incident occurred and she was given $375,000 if she did not say anything to anyone. She said she had gone to meet Ronaldo at Palms Hotel and Casino in June 2008 after the footballer invited her and her friends over.

When they arrived, Mayorga and her friends were asked to change into something more comfortable to hang out in the jacuzzi. She was in the bathroom doing that when Ronaldo came and made a move on her. When she refused, he carried out the assault.

When the incident was reported to the police, she was warned that Ronaldo's team would retaliate and claim it was an attempt at extortion. The lawsuit stated:

The psychological trauma of the sexual assault, the fear of public humiliation and retaliation and the reiteration of those fears by law enforcement and medical providers left plaintiff terrified and unable to act or advocate for herself.

She eventually agreed to a private settlement but now she's insisting she will no longer be silent.

Ronaldo's denies the allegations

The representatives of the football star have denied these allegations after the news first broke on the German publication, Der Spiegel with an interview with Mayorga. Ronaldo's lawyer, Christian Schertz describe the accusations as "blatantly illegal."

On Friday, Ronaldo appeared to dispute the claims when he said on Instagram Live:

What they said today, fake -- fake news. They want to promote by my name. It's normal. They want to be famous -- to say my name. Yeah but it's part of the job. I'm (a) happy man and all, all good.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the lawsuit will be.
