Huge Gas Explosions In Massachusetts Left 1 Person Dead And Several Injured

One person died and about a dozen others were injured after huge explosions and fires took place in three Massachusetts towns on Thursday, according to CNN. At least three explosions and around 80 fires destroyed nearly 40 homes and businesses.

An 18-year-old resident of Lawrence, Leonel Rondon, tragically passed away in the hospital after a chimney fell on his car when he was inside the vehicle. Other residents, including those living in Andover and North Andover, were forced to evacuate.

What happened?

On Thursday, Massachusetts’ police responded to explosions and fires at around 70 different addresses. As reported by authorities, the issue may lie in the gas service, which could have caused several explosions, leaving at least 12 people injured.

A fire rescue chief from Andover commented:

This has been an overwhelming event. I have been in the fire service for almost 39 years and I have never seen anything like this in my entire career. ... It looked like Armageddon, it really did.

Twitter users are horrified by the incident

About 18,000 residents of Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover were left without power on Thursday evening due to emergency shut down, whilst evacuations were taking place in many neighborhoods where people smelled gas.
