The 22-year-old man became a true hero after rescuing a 4-year-old baby boy dangling from a balcony in Paris.
Mamoudou Gassama got dubbed as “Spiderman” after scaling a building to save the boy’s life. The emotional rescue was videotaped by a witness and posted on social media. It was already viewed more than million times. The video made Gassama the Internet star in a few days.
The young man quickly climbed from one balcony to another until he reached the child, who was on the verge of death.
Paris prosecutor has said that the father of the boy went out shopping and then amused himself with playing Pokémon Go on the street, as his son was dangling from the balcony.
The boy's father was taken into custody and questioned by police. It was revealed that he left the window opened, and there was no safety grille on the balcony to stop the child from climbing up and falling over.
The father has to appear in court in September. He can potentially face two years in jail for failing to care for a child under French law.
In the meantime, Gassama met with French President Emmanuel Macron.
He was promised documents allowing him to stay and a fast-track process to gain French nationality. He was also offered a job in the Paris’ fire and emergency service.
