Denzel Washington made a very rare social appearance with his wife of 35 years Pauletta and two of four children, Katia and Malcolm, at AFI Awards in Hollywood.

The four looked elegant and wonderful in their regal outfits on the red carpet. Everybody opted for a smart tux, while Mrs. Washington dazzled in a glittering black-and-white gown.

The best moment was the Oscar-winning actor's speech after receiving an award that night. Denzel Washington emotionally and sensitively gushed about his wife Pauletta.

The Hollywood star dedicated his biggest life achievement award to his sweetheart.

40 years. 40 years of sacrifice. 40 years of forgiveness. She taught me about faith, spirituality, love, real love, unwavering love, in spite of myself.

Denzel went on praising Pauletta:

I would not be alive without Pauletta Washington. I wouldn’t survive.

Washingon also asked the audience to “stand up” and give some applause to his wife. How touching!

"I wouldn’t know what it would mean not to have her by my side," — concluded the actor. The couple is about to celebrate their 36-year wedding anniversary on June 25th.

The two tied the knot in 1983 after four years of being together. Denzel and Pauletta Washington have four beautiful children, and they all seem so close and happy with each other.
