The Sopranos is widely regarded as one of the best TV shows ever made. It’s often credited with making HBO the giant it is now!
Sadly, award-winning actor James Gandolfini, who played the leading role of Tony Soprano, died from a heart attack in 2013 at the age of 51. But there’s someone who now continues his legacy: his 19-year-old son, Michael Gandolfini.
Michael Gandolfini in his dad’s iconic role
The feature prequel to The Sopranos, titled The Many Saints of Newark, is already in the works. If you’re a fan of the show, you likely already know that Michael Gandolfini was cast as young Tony Soprano!
The filming already started, and pictures from the set show that Michael is the absolutely right pick for the role.
Not only does Michael look like his late dad, his expressions and poses perfectly match those of James! Just look at his wry smile, squinting eyes, and unmistakable gait – Michael looks exactly how you would imagine a young Tony Soprano.
The young actor knows that fans’ expectations are high for the upcoming film. Earlier this year, he told TMZ that he considers it an honor to play the role and is excited to step into his dad’s shoes.
With such a stellar cast, which also includes Ray Liotta, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll, and Jon Bernthal, and The Sopranos creator David Chase as a co-writer, we certainly can expect the upcoming film to do justice to the original show!
