Lisa Rinna’s mom, Lois Rinna, recently turned 90. The two women are very close, and Lois sometimes features on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

There’s no doubt that Lois has seen a lot in her nine decades, but there are moments that she wishes she could erase from her memory forever, and she’s bravely shared one of such moments on a recent episode of RHOBH.

Lois Rinna’s shocking revelation

Lisa Rinna has every reason to be proud of her mom, and one horrifying moment that happened before Lisa was born is a testament to her incredible courage.

A few years before Lisa was born, Lois survived an attack by her co-worker, David Carpenter. Lois was one of his first victims, but those who Carpenter encountered later were not as fortunate as her.

Years after Carpenter assaulted Lois, he became known as the Trailside Killer, one of the country’s most notorious serial killers.

Lisa shared an account of her mom's assault with RHOBH viewers:

He picked her up at the bus stop and then, all of a sudden, he started to drive her down this really deserted road. He tried to rape her. He tried to kill her.

Luckily, a military policeman had seen them drive down this deserted road and he knew no one was supposed to be down there and he followed them down. My mom was saved that day by that military policeman.

Lois added:

That was a really bad thing. I knew him. I thought that was it.

She barely survived, as Carpenter really intended to kill her. He stabbed her and hit her in the head with a hammer multiple times. As a result of her injuries, Lois has been living with metal plates in her head and has no sense of smell.

Lois told Lisa about the terrifying ordeal when she was old enough to hear it. The story shook the RHOBH star to the core. She said:

When I finally learned the truth, I had such great sadness and empathy for my mom, knowing that, not only did this happen to her, but she basically just stuffed those feelings for how many years. She never dealt with it, she never talked about it, she never even told her daughter about it.

Lois has had to live with the trauma for decades, but she’s simply grateful she’s alive, and her daughter Lisa is grateful, too, knowing how close she came to never being born.
