Uber Driver Kicks Out A Lesbian Couple From His Taxi Because Of A Kiss

New day – new surprise, right? Imagine you’re in a taxi on your way to a party. Suddenly, a driver pulls over and kicks you out of the car because he saw you pecked your partner.

That’s exactly what happened to a lesbian couple Alex Iovine and Emma Pichl when they were heading from Gowanus, Brooklyn, to a birthday party in the East Village.

Here’s how Iovine describes what happened that day:

We peck kissed, like I reached across and pecked kissed her. That’s how fast it was that’s why I say ‘pecked.’

The driver saw that, and as soon as he was able to pull over, he stopped the car and just asked them to get out.

It was so out of the blue for the couple they just couldn’t come up with the right words. They started filming their dispute with the taxi driver, while he was trying to tell them it was illegal and disrespectful to kiss.

Such an innocent act didn’t leave the society indifferent. People were unanimous that such an outburst of anger is unacceptable. Lots of Facebook users said the man should have been fired immediately.

Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, commented on the case as well. She said such drivers “don’t belong on Uber.” What is more, she said:

This is an open society and Uber is a platform that is available to anybody regardless of your background, your orientation, and that is sacred to us. It’s an unfortunate circumstance and we will do everything we can for that not to repeat.

Let’s hope similar cases won’t happen again, and people will be tolerant to each other.
