Harry And Meghan Are Nowhere To Be Found On Queen Elizabeth's Desktop Gallery

December 24, 2019 14:32

Is Queen Elizabeth being passive-aggressive? Or are we simply reading too much into an innocent situation? That appears to be the question of the day when the Sussexes seemed to be absent in a picture shared by Her Majesty.

Is the Queen angry with Harry and Meghan?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got really personal about their lives and struggles in October 2019. Some of the topics discussed included:

  • Prince Harry's tense relationship with his brother, Prince William.
  • Meghan Markle's dissatisfaction with intense scrutiny.
  • Meghan's revelation that her friends warned her about marrying Harry.
  • Harry's discomfort with the papparazzi and how their relentless pursiuit remind him of his mother's death.

A report by TheTelegraph explored the possibility that Queen Elizabeth wasn't happy with the royal couple for airing their private matters publicly. It was suggested that the Queen, who has always placed a lot of importance on discreetness and privacy, may disapprove of their open attitude.

It also didn't help that Meghan Markle's confession to Tom Bradby about how no one had asked if she was okay made it look like the royal family didn't care about her.

So has all this caused a rift between the Sussexes and the Queen?

A purposeful oversight?

In 2018, Queen Elizabeth made her annual Christmas speech and a snapshot of the moment was shared online. Her Majesty looked magnificent in a grey attire, surrounded by royal luxury. The snap was taken in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace.

On her desk were pictures of some of the royal family members including a photo of young Prince Philip and another family picture that featured Prince Charles, the Cambridges and the Sussexes.

This year, Queen Elizabeth was captured once again as she prepared to make her speech. And as usual, she looked really beautiful. According to Harper's Bazaar, she had on an Angela Kelly dress in royal blue. She also wore a pearl necklace, lovely earrings, and a gold brooch.

While she looked really good, one cannot but notice that her desktop photo gallery looked a little different this year. The members of the royal family featured were Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip, and the Cambridges. Noticeably absent was Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their son Archie.

Does it matter that the Sussexes weren't there?

According to Town and Country Magazine, the pictures Her Majesty chooses to share on her desktop signify the pride she feels to be a monarch, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.

It's her way of celebrating her husband, children, and grandchildren. It's also possible that this year's arrangement signifies the members of the royal family that are poised to take the throne someday. Prince Charles, for instance, is next in line while Prince William follows in the line of succession.

Some royal fans shared their opinions about Harry and Meghan's non-appearance in the photo gallery. And a few of them do believe it has something to do with the rules of succession.

@Paul Hammer:

Well considering the Monarch, is a great grandmother, grandmother, mother, it would be nice to have pics of everyone on her desk, doesn’t matter what they have done, she is still a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, to all her family, and then she is the Queen of the commonwealth!

@Patricia Beaulieu:

Well, I guess William and his family are the ones that really count she loves all of her children. But William is special the throne will be his one day.

@Alexandra Voigt:

It seems the photos are of her father, husband, and heirs to the throne, which makes sense. As much as I want to buy into the drama of it all, and as much as I want to see the Sussexes, it makes sense.

@Liezl Randall:

Well, Harry is not directly in line to the throne. Come on people, the symbolism here is not hard to understand!

We can't blame people for feeling a little disappointed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their son Archie, weren't featured in the photos. Royal fans do love to see the couple, especially their little one. And it was even more of a big absence considering that the Sussexes were present last year.

Regardless, it makes sense that the pictures portrayed the monarchy rules. It was probably a deliberate and non-malicious move to exempt Harry, Meghan, and Archie.
