Royal Snub Or Coincidence: Meghan Markle Stands Apart From Kate Middleton And Queen Elizabeth On Remembrance Day

Meghan Markle looked gorgeous recently as she joined the rest of the Royal Family on Remembrance Sunday.

The 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex chose a black coat and fancy hat as she stood at the balcony to watch the men in the royal family including Prince Harry, Prince William, and Prince Charles lay wreaths in honor of those who lost their lives in World War I.

Meghan and Kate Middleton sported matching styles and colors for the event which made sense based on the black color code for the day.

The Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge stood on different balconies.

While Kate Middleton joined Queen Elizabeth and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall on the same balcony, Meghan was seen standing with Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Princess Anne's husband, Sir Timothy Laurence.

At first glance, this might seem like a slight against the Duchess of Sussex especially considering what Meghan said recently about not being completely happy with the pressure that comes with a royal.

However, there were probably no hard feelings involved because each window was small and it was almost impossible for more than three or four people to stand on each.

In addition, there's a "pecking order" involved in official royal events. By comparison, Queen Elizabeth (as the head of the monarchy), Duchess Camilla (future Queen) and Duchess Kate (also a future queen) are higher on the pecking order that Duchess Meghan who's husband is sixth in line to the throne.

Joe Little, Managing Editor of Majesty magazine told People that Meghan isn't as "prominent" as some might assume.

Social media reactions

Some royal followers have reacted to the positioning of the women in the royal family for this event.

@Lola Johnson:

During official events, the royal family also arranges themselves according to a royal “pecking order.”

@Sandra Edobor:

The queen, the next queen and the next queen. So the Duchess of Sussex knowing her place stood on her lane. It's as simple as that.

@Maria Monteiro:

We love you, Meghan.

@Terina Brown:

It's a shame the way they treat her. Hold your head up Dutchess of Sussex you are somebody.

It's easy to assume that Meghan is relegated to the background at times like this, but regardless of her popularity, the royal family has certain rules they follow during official appearances. And their positioning at events like this is based on just that.
