Language Expert Gives His Verdict On Melania Trump's Claim About Knowing Six Languages

November 28, 2019

Melania Trump stands out from her predecessors with her reserved personality, quiet manner, and disinterest in the spotlight.

Donald Trump's wife reportedly has a good command of six languages: English, French, German, Italian, and Serbian, as well as her native language, Slovenian. She speaks more languages than any other First Lady before her. But is it really so?

It is noteworthy that there is no evidence that she speaks any language other than Slovenian and English with any actual degree of fluency. According to Political Flare, one language expert, John Aravosis, said that Melania Trump's claim she speaks five languages, excluding Slovenian, is not true.

It is possible that FLOTUS studied them, but it is doubtful whether or not she uses it regularly and what she considers "fluent." For instance, upon meeting Pope Francis, who speaks Italian, she looked over the interpreter to understand what he was saying.

Another analogous situation happened in France when Melania Trump visited a children's hospital. Take a look at the video below — all she said was "Bonjour, je m' appelle Melania," which is "Hello, my name is Melania."

John Aravosis conceded FLOTUS actually "lied" that she speaks a few languages. Slovenian and Serbo-Croatian are the national languages of her homeland, but her claim to be fluent in others is at best unproven.

The expert even said that her English is a "broken English" so that he doesn't believe she was honest about all these languages.

Well, some people are just shy or unconfident to speak to the public, so maybe Melania Trump just doesn't feel comfortable to do so.
