Christopher Walken’s marriage is a rarity in Hollywood. The actor and his wife, Georgianne, met in the late ’60s and have been together ever since.

Georgianne, who later became a casting director, did some acting back then. She and her future husband were in a production of West Side Story in which they played a couple. The two fell in love in real life and tied the knot in 1969.

Being childless helped his career, Walken says

The Walkens remain a family of two – their marriage of more than fifty years has been childless (if you don’t count the fur babies – the couple is cat lovers!)

However, the actor has no regrets about having no children. That’s because he made an impressive acting career that wouldn’t have been possible had he and his wife become parents, he said.

Walken’s acting career started when he was a child, and he watched his young colleagues give up their acting aspirations after they had babies. That wasn’t what the actor wanted for himself. He told The Guardian:

I'm sure many of the kids I knew as a child would have continued in show business, but they had kids of their own, had to do something dependable. I didn't, so I could get by even in periods of unemployment.

A life worth living

Ultimately, Walken and his wife’s choice not to have children worked the way he had expected.

The actor has appeared in more than 100 films and TV shows and won a number of prestigious awards, including an Oscar for his role in The Deer Hunter (1978) and BAFTA for Catch Me If You Can (2002).

The actor hasn’t retired yet and doesn’t plan to quit any time soon. When he’s not working, he and his wife spend time in their quiet home in Westport, Connecticut. Some may wonder why they chose to remain a family of two, but that’s their life. Whatever works for them!
