Terminally Ill Man Responds While Wife Sings 'Amazing Grace' Sitting Next To Him At The Hospital

December 20, 2019

It was so sad when a family of six in Tennessee realized that the father of the house had contracted a very rare and terminal illness called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).

CJD, which affects the brain and is quite progressive, is a human variation of the mad cow disease in cattle. /

The father of four, Tony Gibson, was believed to have been infected when he consumed a cow product which had been contaminated with the disease.

Tony's wife, Danielle, and his two sets of twin daughters were devastated by the news. However, they had to stay strong for their father.

Tony's battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease

The symptoms of CDJ started very slowly and gave little need for panic as Tony began to forget little things.

However, what waved the red flag for his wife was when her usually attentive husband started experiencing rapid memory loss.

She said:

'He would get so confused I would have to label the rooms in our home.'

The tragic blow was when the doctor revealed to Danielle that there is no cure for the disease and Tony had less than a year to live. But she and their four daughters stayed strong.

Danielle took care of him until he had to be placed in a nursing home, and even then she was always by his side. Three days before Tony passed on, his wife did the most beautiful thing.

While he laid in bed, Danielle sang to him his favorite hymn, 'Amazing Grace', and Tony's eyes immediately lit upon his wife. It was such a bittersweet moment.

Tony's wife Danielle is such a caring and loving person. She supported her dying husband till the last moment, and sang while sitting next to him. Rest in peace, Tony!
