A year has passed since the world started talking about the ‘Fab Four.’ At the very end of February 2018, Princes William and Harry, joined by Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, held their first joint official event. In the fall, rumors of the division between the two Princes appeared, and amid these rumors, some web users noticed William ignore Meghan on one occasion. Unamused of these talks, we decided to compare the first and one of the last joint appearances of the two Duchesses.
The overall presentation at the Royal Foundation was a landmark event. Then Harry’s bride outlined some of her views and principles speaking about women's rights and reassuring the public that she was ready to work for the benefit of the monarchy and the country with great zeal. Although Kate and Meghan appeared quite relaxed, the latter was probably quite anxious.
As it often happens, stylists coordinated the images of the four young royals. The ladies were dressed in plain blue dresses. But while Kate looked businesslike and modest, Meghan was less formal. Then it seemed that the former actress was trying to follow the style of her future relative. Like Middleton, Markle preferred a simple hairstyle with loose locks covering her shoulders. The attentive public also noticed that she had mastered one of Kate’s most elegant tricks – her cute way of sitting with the ankles crossed.
The other day, the Cambridges and Sussexes together attended an event dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of Prince Charles' Investiture. A reception in his honor was held at Buckingham Palace and was attended by Queen Elizabeth herself. So what has changed in a year?
The most obvious change was that Kate and Meghan swapped roles: this time it was the Duchess of Sussex who was expecting a baby. Presumably, her term could be roughly the same as that of Middleton at the Royal Foundation. The outfits of the two Duchesses were traditionally coordinated: both wore elegant outfits and shoes of a similar style in light shades. And while we know almost everything about Meghan’s ensemble (she was wearing Amanda Wakeley’s dress and coat that retails for over $1,000), Kate followed Elizabeth II’s example and went for an outfit from a private designer, whose name remains unknown.
Kate Middleton apparently was in a great mood, actively working the room, while Markle stayed on the sidelines.
An expert on body language noted that she looked like a “baby in the corner,” although it seems that there is, in fact, a simpler explanation.
The birth of Baby Sussex is right around the corner. Besides, it was Charles who was the central figure of the occasion, not Meghan, Kate, or their husbands.
Relationships within well-known families have always sparked people’s curiosity, especially if the future public roles of their representatives are as different as those of William and Harry. Returning to the charming Duchesses: which of them, in your opinion, looked more sophisticated and elegant?
