Rags To Riches To Rags: The Tragic Fate Of Thailand’s Ex-Princess

June 4, 2019

On May 1, 2019, 66-year-old King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn and his beloved spouse, 40-year-old Suthida Tidjai got married. However, hardly anyone knows about the difficult fate of the former Consort Princess, Srirasmi, after the divorce from the monarch.

Srirasmi was born into a poor family. She married Prince Maha on February 10, 2001, but the public learned about this only some time later. The 50-year-old monarch had already been married twice and had children from previous marriages, but expressed a desire to settle down and start another full-fledged family.

In 2005, Srirasmi gave birth to a son, after which the grateful father-in-law, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, entitled her the Princess of Thailand.

Some time later, in 2014, the marriage ended. The King divorced the Princess, and seven of Srirasmi’s relatives were arrested as a result of a loud corruption scandal in which they were accused of bribery and abuse of their royal status. Even for Thais, who were aware of the eccentric character of the Prince, it all seemed too cruel.

In December 2014, Princess Srirasmi voluntarily renounced her royal title.

Maha has a new life now. The last two years, the King of Thailand tried to improve his image in every possible way. Maha’s current partner, Suthida, is the head of his personal guard.

As for Srirasmi, according to some media reports, the former Princess of Thailand is on house arrest. The woman lives in a house with a leaking roof, and no electricity or normal bathroom.

We don’t know what the marriage of the Thai monarchs really looked like, but Srirasmi clearly doesn’t deserve such inhumane treatment. Do you agree with us? Share your thoughts in the comments.
